Monochrome Projects

Monochrome is commonly known as 'Blackwork', but can obviously come in any single colour, not just black. The first completed piece is a beautiful Chemise, with collar and cuffs covered in red silk designs including lots of little animals and flowers. These patterns were copied directly from original designs, to create an authentic garment.

Having finished the chemise, the monochrome stitchers began several new projects, including cushion and pillow covers, and a coif, a sort of cap covering the hair.

This coif is copied from an original Jacobean piece in the Victoria & Albert Museum Collection.
