Lots will be happening in Stockport this year to commemorate the Peterloo massacre of 16th August 1819. The heritage library has arranged a programme of events, shown here.
Staircase House will have Constable Birch’s breastbone displayed in a more prominent position and will have a ‘Meet the Witness’ event.
The War Memorial Art Gallery will include images about Peterloo in it’s Open Exhibition.
‘Stockport at Peterloo’ will be a display in the heritage centre.
The dungeon now has a permanent display about the shooting of Constable Birch.
So plenty to see! Dates and details of these events will be in the new edition of ‘What’s On’ published by the museum service and will be available soon.
