This book followes the growth of Stockport from the time of Domesday to the end of the 17th Century, through wars, famine and disease to a thriving commercial Market Town, long before the Industrial Revolution.
Richard de Vernon was the younger son of an aristocrat, he built Stockport’s first church in the Market Place sometime between 1306 -1329. This is the history of that church, part of which still stands today.
