The English and Irish of Stockport were not good friends and on 29th July 1852 this became a war between the two sides. The events in Stockport attracted national attention leading to an inquiry and trials.
Richard de Vernon was the younger son of an aristocrat, he built Stockport’s first church in the Market Place sometime between 1306 -1329. This is the history of that church, part of which still stands today.
